Rhenium
A shiny, silvery white, very dense transition metal with a high melting point. It is stable in dry air but reacts slowly with water and oxygen.

Rhenium is another element that is difficult to obtain in solid metallic form so we melted these buttons ourselves from compacted rhenium powder which is used as an alloying agent for making special high temperature components in the aerospace industry. Rather surprisingly, these are slightly radioactive and will cause a Geiger counter placed near then to give a reading just above background. This is not due to contamination. Rhenium is naturally radioactive as the isotope Re-187, which composes over 60% of natural rhenium, has a half life of 45 billion years.
